1:1 TRAINING
As mentioned in all of our course outlines, at Leaps and Bounds we are delighted to be able to offer you a number of different 1:1 session that will suit whatever query, issue or challenge that you are experiencing with your dog at whatever stage in their life.
It is worth remembering that everyone will learn in different ways and at a different pace and we are intent on providing a learning experience that suits individual clients as well as those who thrive in the class participation atmosphere.
Puppy Home Orientation visit:
We have found that many of our clients have benefited from our unique, tailored service that we offer new puppy owners which is the Puppy Home Orientation visit. It goes hand in hand with our Puppy Socialisation course as a precursor or in addiotn to. We can make the first few days and weeks of having your new puppy home as stress free as possible, so giving you the chance to have quality, rewarding time with your puppy as you get to know each other. We offer a 1.5 hour specialised visit to your home to ensure that your puppy gets the best start to settling in to their new home environment and family.
We cover all the important elements from the initial journey home to feeding, toileting, building a strong bond and giving you the tools and more importantly the confidence to look after them. Since we conduct these in your house and garden, we can advise you specifically about puppy proofing these areas. Our aim is to ensure that all family members, young and not so young are involved with the puppy’s training interactions and this can start as soon as they arrive home in a gentle, positive, reward-based manner. It can be a daunting and steep learning curve but we can answer all your questions and be there to support you in those important and exciting first weeks.
From this initial visit, you can then choose whether to join our excellent Puppy Socialisation course and learn in a social, safe and secure setting with other new owners and puppies or have a series of 1:1s to introduce you and your puppy to that vital first stage of training at a time convenient to your schedule, with one of our experienced trainers. Please feel free to contact us for further information or to book a Puppy Home Orientation Visit.
General 1:1 Training
We offer general training for both you and your dog to develop the necessary training skills and bond and to be confident taking your dog out and about with you. These can be done alongside classes if you prefer. The General 1:1 training sessions provide you with dedicated time with our trainers to address specific issues or tasks. In our extensive experience, it may be that you need to build some confidence or address certain aspects of training that will make life easier for you to enjoy your dog
Depending on your requirements, we can incorporate the distractions that you might encounter on a daily walk in your local area, for example going past joggers calmly, so that you learn how to influence and engage with your dog when outside in these situations. As an alternative, we have the use of our large, secure field where we can target recalls, practice off lead heelwork and all other important aspects of training in a safe environment where we can control the level and type of distraction and so build your confifndce and that of your dog before taking it out to the local area.
The 1:1 training will always be structured with achievable goals, learning with positive reward-based methods but also having fun with your dog. We are mindful of setting you new challenges and with our extensive experience to draw on, we can pull certain aspects of different disciplines to help with training new tasks or to engage your dog, from gundog, agility, scent work etc.
Behaviour-Related Visits:
At Leaps and Bounds, we pride ourselves in our work with more in-depth complex problem behaviours. We offer 1:1s to address any behaviour-related issues that your dog may be exhibiting in this area. These can range from anxiety disorders, reactivity to other dogs or people or car chasing or separation anxiety. They can be new behaviours, ones that are habitual for many months or years or ones that you are experiencing with your newly rehomed dog. Whatever you dog’s history, age or or experience, our trainers can offer you support, guidance, specific if training and advice through our years of experience in dealing with all manner of behaviour related issues. We have attended regular training courses, conferences and workshops to gain knowledge in employing the most effective, positive training methods to help your dog learn a new, better way to interact with their world. As important as it is to help your dog, it is essential to provide owners with the understanding and knowledge and tools to be able to communicate with their dog effectively during this process.
Following an initial, in-depth assessment at your house or garden or our secure field, we can provide a tailored, comprehensive rehabilitation programme which ensures that you and your dog can start your training effectively, with fun, kind, reward-based methods and with our ongoing support and help to a schedule that suits you and your busy work/home life balance. In order to see progression with training, we recommend that consistent 1:1 training sessions are booked and maintained throughout the programme. It is important to mention that we would never promote or practise methods that are violent and could potentially cause your dog harm.
In addition, we offer a service, at your request, to provide a written report with all our actions and advice, so that you can monitor your progress and refer to effective methods of overcoming your problem in the future. We can also send you video clips to support these actions and offer an additional support service via telephone or email within working hours
We recommend contacting us sooner rather than later as all these home visits are in demand. We do our best to work around your busy schedules and find a time to meet you on a regular basis that best suits your lifestyle. Whatever your problem is, we are here to give you as much guidance and support as possible.
